Vox Bikol columnist Tito Genova Valiente has been invited to be part of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino, the country's premier critics' group. Popularly known as URIAN, the panel of respected critics is responsible for bestowing the prestigious Gawad URIAN to the best of Philippine cinema.
Valiente, a Bikolano, joins URIAN through the invitation of National Artist in Literature, Bienvenido Lumbera. Together with fellow Ateneo de Manila University professor, Dr. Benilda Santos who is herself a Bikolana, Valiente officially became part of URIAN last April 26.
An anthropologist and professor in Japanese Studies, Valiente had been awarded last March 18 a research grant by the Sumitomo Foundation for his "Transnationalization, Acculturation and Negotiation: A Review of Histories of Collaboration Between Japanese andFilipino Artists and the Creation of Art and Cultural Spaces From 2003-2008."
An engaging speaker, he was invited to deliver the Keynote Address for the Young
Critics' Circle of the University of the Philippines last March.
Aside from his regular column, "Signos" for Vox Bikol, Valiente is also a columnist of Business Mirror, a national daily.
