JOSE PANGANIBAN, Camarines Norte (June 30, 2011) - Residents are shaken in disbelief at the brutal robbery-slay of a businesswoman in this peaceful coastal town that is not known for violent crimes.

The other night, suspects riding a motorcycle in tandem fired a gun at close range at the head of a 46-year old local grocery owner, Romila Pestin, in front of the victim's house, grabbed her bag containing 400,000 pesos then sped away

The victim was on her way home from her store located near the bus terminal in downtown Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte. She was shot to death while about to enter her house at Purok no. 3, barangay Plaridel in this town - the suspects apparently lurking at a distance awaiting her arrival.

Camarines Norte Police office spokesman, Police Chief Insp. Elton Lacson, said the shooting incident was witnessed by the victim’s teenage daughter and several salesladies who work at the victim's grocery.

Lacson said that violent armed robbery is extremely uncommon in this coastal town. He added that the suspects apparently knew that the victim was carrying a sizable amount of cash.

Police investigation has yielded no suspect so far. (SONNY SALES)
