NAGA CITY (16 April) -Two hundred fifty soldiers from the Philippine Army and Philippine Navy arrived in Masbate City this morning to assist in maintaining peace and order in the island province during this election period. The soldiers were the same contingents sent to Haiti and Liberia last year to help in the peacekeeping efforts of the United Nations.

NAGA CITY (14 April) --Some high profile politicians in Bikol on Monday night had the chance to tell the public their presidential bets and campaign for them at the same time. In a political forum in the Plaza Quezon here in the city, Camarines Sur Representative Luis Villafuerte (3rd District) said he would only vote for the candidate who both had executive and legislative experience-obviously referring to Nacionalista Party standard bearer Senator Manuel "Manny" Villar.

NAGA CITY (11 December) -Camarines Sur Representative Dato Arroyo is willing to recommend to the National Irrigation Administration the temporary suspension of the construction of the P1.9 billion Libmanan-Cabusao dam project amid "social acceptability concerns," Presidential Assistant Secretary for Bicol Affairs Tomasito Monson said Tuesday.

NAGA CITY-Camarines Sur province now has two state universities after the House bill  seeking to convert Camarines Sur State Agricultural College (CSSAC) in Pili town into Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) was signed into Republic Act 9717 by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Monday (October 12).

Jose Rizal can now sleep in peace--at least in Naga City--after the Supreme Court (SC) decided on which between Naga City and Camarines Sur province can rightfully administer and supervise the plaza named after him.

Plaza Rizal, located within the old central business district of Naga City, has been the subject of a heated and long-standing dispute between the city and the province, which has controlled the Plaza even after Naga became an independent component city in 1948 through Republic Act 305.
