MANILA, Philippines – Proving all rumors that floated ahead of his appointment to be true, losing vice presidential bet Mar Roxas is the new Department of Transportation and Communications Secretary, according to Palace sources.
Roxas, a former senator and trade secretary, is the first option of President Benigno Aquino III to replace resigned DOTC head Jose de Jesus.
He was also earlier being prepared to take the post of presidential chief-of-staff.
Earlier, a report by radio DZBB also said that Roxas has been appointed to the DOTC post.
Energy Secretary Jose Almendras was also considered to take the place of De Jesus, but he reportedly declined.
The official announcement of Roxas' appointment is expected anytime today.
Roxas was the running-mate of President Aquino during May 10, 2010 polls. He lost the vice presidential race to former Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay.
