Azkals rout Cambodia, 8-0

MANILA, Philippines – Not even heavy rains could stop the Philippine Azkals from routing a hapless Cambodia side, 8-0, Sunday night in the AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

Phil Younghusband led the Azkals’ rampage with four goals in the match that was halted for more than an hour due to heavy downpour that hit the metropolis.

Younghusband opened the Azkals' scoring parade 25 minutes into the match. By the time the match was halted due to flooded pitch, Younghusband has already completed a hat trick with the Azkals comfortably ahead, 6-0.

New recruit Fil-Spanish Javier Patino also came up with a brace while the comebacking Fil-German Stephan Shrock and Carli de Murga added one goal apiece.

It was an statement win for the Azkals as they got the result which they needed. The rousing win for the host eclipsed Turkmenistan’s 7-0 drubbing of Cambodia last Friday, setting up an interesting finale of the group E qualifiers.

The Azkals will play Turkmenistan on Tuesday to determine who will top Group E, which only had three teams after Brunei pulled out at the last minute.  (From Philstar.com)
