LEGAZPI CITY, Oct. 13 - Mayon volcano continues to show signs of restlessness signified by high level of sulfur dioxide emission and high and low frequency volcanic quakes, prompting disaster authorities to strictly enforce the "no entry" rule in designated danger zone areas surrounding the volcano.

Albay to pilot test climate change courses in school curriculum

LEGAZPI CITY, Oct. 13 - The province of Albay would pilot test the climate change adaptation and mitigation subjects once the guidelines in its integration with elementary and secondary schools are finalized, the Center on Initiatives and Research on Climate Change Adaptation (CIRCA) here said on Tuesday.

LUPI, CAMARINES SUR (14 October) - OPPOSITION TO THE CURRENT CONSTRUCTION of the P1.9-Billion, Malaguico Dam Project in Barangay Malaguico in Sipocot, Camarines Sur has gathered momentum with local residents in the affected towns of Lupi and Sipocot now expressing deep concern over the displacement of more than 300 families along the riverbanks of the Pulantuna River in Lupi town, even as local government estimates claimed that affected families could reach 500 or an estimated 20,000 individuals.

CBSUA is new state university in Camarines Sur

NAGA CITY-Camarines Sur province now has two state universities after the House bill seeking to convert Camarines Sur State Agricultural College (CSSAC) in Pili town into Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) was signed into Republic Act 9717 by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Monday (October 12).

THE PROPONENTS of the Libmanan -Cabusao Dam Project (now Cabusao-Sipocot-Lupi-Libmanan or Casilli Dam Project) must have learned out of the tragedies plaguing the northern parts of the country today. Pangasinan is still deep in flood waters. Residents of Botolan, Zambales had seen their cemetery demolished by raging waters that disinterred coffins and corpses. Until now, residents of Marikina, Pasig, Cainta, and other low-lying portions of Metro Manila are still inundated—now in ink-black murk—and skin and stomach diseases are now being feared. Aside from the typhoons, garbage, lack of contingency plans, weather bureau problems and other fatal factors, one significant circumstance matters: the dams in the upstream of these places.

MANILA - Research group Ibon Foundation asked on Friday how aid for disaster relief given by donor governments was spent by the Arroyo government, in the face of the administration's apparent lack of disaster preparedness and response when tropical storm Ondoy hit Luzon last week.
