Grateful nation celebrates Rizal's 150th birthday

Manila Philippines (June 19, 2011) - The Jose Rizal mystique lives on in a nation that for long was in need of heroes. Filipinos learning to find the hero in themselves celebrate today the 150th birthday of Dr. Jose Rizal,the national hero of the Philippines amid a rekindled patriotic fervor.

Rizal was born in Calamba on June 19, 1861 and was executed in Bagumbayan (now Rizal Park) on Dec. 30, 1896 by the Spanish colonialists.

TRIPOLI, Libya (June 11 2011) — A doctor stationed in a Misrata hospital said that 22 people were killed in the latest attacks by Gadhafi's forces in the outskirts of the rebel-controlled city.

The doctor who identified himself as Ayman works at Hikma hospital said Gadhafi loyalists bombed Dafniya, a town 18 miles (30 kilometers) west of Misrata, using tanks, artillery and incendiary rockets. The attacks began about 10 a.m. resulting in the deaths of 22 and wounding of 61 people.

(a) The powers of the DILG which he heads have been emasculated by the adoption of the Local Government Code.

As secretary, he can no longer order LGUs around especially the barangay.
