LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines  (Dec 11, 2011) – After the successful revival of its Manila-Naga route back in July this year, the Bicol Express can now reach the province of Albay down south.

A test train travel, which the Philippine National Railways (PNR) called an “explorer run,”  started at Tutuban Central Station at 10:05 P.M. Wednesday  (Dec 7) and ended at Ligao City Thursday (Dec 8) for a total travel time of 12 and a half hours, more than two hours past the advertised 10-hour travel time.

LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 23 (PIA) -- The Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Council (PDRRMC) remains on heightened alert since Sunday this week in the wake of tropical depression Mina expected to bring widespread rains that may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

Albay Gov. Joey Salceda, also chair of the PDRRMC, on Monday had already issued advisory putting the province under alert status and directing all three cities and 15 towns on 24-hour watch and be ready to carry out flood and landslide evacuation plans.

The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC), said that Juaning caused the death of 32 people in the Bikol region - 12 in Albay, 6 in Catanduanes, 6 in Camarines Norte, 5 in Camarines Sur, 2 in Masbate and 1 in Sorsogon.

LEGAZPI CITY, March 2 2011 -- There are at least 251 Bikolano overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) that were caught in an armed conflict in Libya that need to be rescued and brought back to the country, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Bikol said Wednesday.

The agency said OWWA database records indicated that the 251 OFWs are residents of Bikol and are presently working in Libya. Of these, 98 are from Camarines Sur; Albay, 85; Camarines Norte, 29; Sorsogon, 25; Catanduanes, 8; and Masbate, 6.

LEGAZPI CITY, Jan. 8–- Because to their disaster risk reduction strategy, the Albay Provincial Safety and Emergency Management Office (APSEMO) reported on Saturday that no casualty was recorded despite the 73 landslides brought by continuous heavy rains in the province for the past 18 days.
