 During the 1920’s, an English mountaineer was once quoted as having replied to the question, “Why do you want to climb Mount Everest?” with the retort, “Because it’s there.”

And with that, the most famous three words in mountaineering were immortalized.

With the same spirit that has fuelled thousands of backpackers the world over, revered Filipino mountain climber Romi Garduce is off to ascend his last of the illustrious Seven Summits that will ultimately lead to a first ever feat for a Filipino to be part of an elite circle of climbing enthusiasts.

Libyan interim PM confirms capture of Gaddafi's son Saif al-Islam, promises fair trial

ZINTAN (Xinhua) - Libyan interim Prime Minister Abdel Rahim el-Keeb Saturday confirmed the capture of Saif al-Islam, the second son of late ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, in the south of the country.

Keeb also promised a fair trial for Saif al-Islam, who has been on the run for months and is wanted by the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes against humanity.

ZINTAN (Xinhua) - Libyan interim Prime Minister Abdel Rahim el-Keeb Saturday confirmed the capture of Saif al-Islam, the second son of late ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, in the south of the country.

Within an hour, he was dead, but not before jubilant Libyans had vented decades of hatred by pulling the eccentric dictator’s hair and parading his bloodied body on the hood of a truck...

Moammar Gadhafi is dead

SIRTE Libya (Oct 20, 2011) - The circumstances of his death are still unclear but the outcome is that Moammar Gadhafi, who ruled Libya with a dictatorial grip for 42 years until he was ousted by rebels in a bloody civil war, was killed Thursday when revolutionary forces overwhelmed his hometown, Sirte, the last major bastion of resistance two months after the regime fell.

Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril confirmed Gadhafi had been killed. "We have been waiting for this moment for a long time. Moammar Gadhafi has been killed," Jibril told a news conference in the capital Tripoli.

Forced evacuation of Filipinos in Libya ordered

MANILA, Philippines (Aug. 24, 2011) - As Libyan rebels take control of most part of Tripoli and a final battle with remaining loyalists of strongman Moammar Gadhafi looming, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) ordered yesterday the forced repatriation of some 1,600 Filipinos in Libya.

MANILA, Philippines (Aug. 24, 2011) - As Libyan rebels take control of most part of Tripoli and a final battle with remaining loyalists of strongman Moammar Gadhafi looming, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) ordered yesterday the forced repatriation of some 1,600 Filipinos in Libya.

According to several reports, the rebels now control 80 to 90 percent of the city of Tripoli and are in celebratory mood. But isolated clashes and gunfires still continue and Gadhafi is not showing sign he is ready to give up soon.

NATO unleashes blistering airstrikes in Libya

TRIPOLI (AP) – Moammar Gadhafi stood defiant yesterday in the face of the heaviest and most punishing NATO airstrikes yet — at least 40 thunderous daylight attacks that sent plumes of smoke billowing above the Libyan leader's central Tripoli compound.

Woman of the Hour

I was delighted to realize that in the recent graduation ceremonies of the Ateneo de Naga University, the Valedictory Address was given by a female student, Ms. Sheanly Plofino and the Commencement Speech was delivered by another woman, Ms. Regina Paz Lopez. I think such is timely especially that March 8, 2011 marked the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Day.
