Forced evacuation of Filipinos in Libya ordered

MANILA, Philippines (Aug. 24, 2011) - As Libyan rebels take control of most part of Tripoli and a final battle with remaining loyalists of strongman Moammar Gadhafi looming, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) ordered yesterday the forced repatriation of some 1,600 Filipinos in Libya.

MANILA, Philippines (Aug. 24, 2011) - As Libyan rebels take control of most part of Tripoli and a final battle with remaining loyalists of strongman Moammar Gadhafi looming, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) ordered yesterday the forced repatriation of some 1,600 Filipinos in Libya.

According to several reports, the rebels now control 80 to 90 percent of the city of Tripoli and are in celebratory mood. But isolated clashes and gunfires still continue and Gadhafi is not showing sign he is ready to give up soon.

Senate probes on ailing Arroyos to continue

On jailing Gloria and moving on

Let's just move on and let bygones by bygones. In another world and another time this is an admirable adage to live by - but not in the Philippines in 2011. "Let's move" on was the standard triumphant utterance of Arroyo allies after each successful effort at thwarting an impeachment attempt against former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Sad Day for Filipinos

March 30 is a sad day for Filipinos. Three overseas Filipino workers Sally Ordinario-Villanueva, Ramon Credo and Elizabeth Batain were executed after being caught by Chinese immigration authorities and subsequently sentenced to death for carrying heroin into China.

Even before the execution, one could already feel the somber mood of the people being shown in television coverages. It’s as if time stood still until the announcement that the three were already dead.
