MANILA, Philippines (June 29, 2011 9:30 P.M.) – Azkals and Sri Lanka fought to a draw, 1-1, in the first leg match of their 2014 Fifa World Cup Asian Qualifiers in Colombo tonight.
With Sri Lanka Brave Reds ahead one goal on Gunarathne's penalty kick near the end of the first half, Azkal's Nathaniel Burkey scored a goal off a pass from Chieffy Caligdong a few minutes into the second half to hold the host to a draw.
The Azkals lead on aggregate because of Burkey’s away goal, alhough the match ended in a draw.
The Philippines will host Sri Lanka on July 3 at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in the second leg of their 2-game series to determine which team shall advance to face Kuwait on July 23 and 28. (From philstar.com, Vox Bikol)
