IRIGA CITY --- The Kalikasan Group (K-Group) of the University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP), in support of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) program, has lined-up various activities to mark the celebrations of the Environment Month this June and the World Environment Day last June 5.
UNEP’s K-Group is composed of faculty members led by Ana Nelia R. Pabeliña. The pro-environment group aims to strengthen the awareness, participation and dedication of the members of the university community in efforts to promote and protect the environment, not only in Iriga City and its suburbs but also in Camarines Sur, Bicol region and the entire country.
The K-Group strongly advances pro-environment measures and programs. It was organized to help in the global campaign to arrest the deteriorating condition of the world’s environment as a result of man’s unabated and irresponsible exploitation of Mother Nature.
It will be recalled that UNEP’s home, Iriga City, suffered massive flooding and landslides two years ago as a result of environmental degradation.
Given this situation, concerned faculty members of UNEP decided to group themselves and took the initiative to lead in promoting and advocating a sustained program for environmental protection that would benefit Iriga City and the Rinconada district in particular and the country and the world in general.
UNEP through its K-Group shows the university’s strong commitment to the environment, which obligation it wants to instill to its educators and students for the benefit of the country’s future generation.
This year’s international theme for the World Environment Day celebrations is “Your Planet Needs You – Unite to Combat Climate Change.”
