MANILA--The Gospel may be 2,000 years old, but the Catholic Church is grateful to new Internet-driven technologies for aiding their work of spreading the Scripture.
The Archdiocese of Caceres has recently launched a new weekly “podcast” of Sunday homilies aimed at reaching Catholic Filipinos working abroad. Podcasts are like an audio broadcast but aimed at—or subscribed to by—specific audiences. The audio can be accessed live or downloaded for listening at a more convenient time.
Podcasts can be accessed by visiting a site on the Internet or by using digital music or multimedia players.
The Caceres archdiocese’s podcast program, which can be accessed at www.caceres-naga. org, also has other categories like reflections and speeches.
Caceres communications director Fr Louie Occiano said podcasting is an effort of the local church to evangelize Bikolanos working or already residing abroad. The Sunday homilies, he said, are also intended for those who cannot attend Mass or even hear the Sunday Gospel. The homilies are delivered both in English and in Bikol.
Occiano said the church live in a day of great opportunity and they must continue to take advantage of every means of communication available.
The Caceres podcast will also air the audio messages of Caceres Archbishop Leonardo Legaspi as well as the recorded radio programs of the Caceres Commission on Communications. (CBCPNews)
