LEGAZPI CITY -- DENTAL AND MEDICAL Missions including relief distribution and engineering works are being conducted by units of the Philippine Army in the typhoon-stricken locality and surrounding villages of Hubo, Magallanes in Sorsogon province, where 18 people had died and scores of dwellings lost in destructive landslides.
The 901st Brigade, PA community relations office in Camp Simeon Ola here reported, that Dental and Medical missions including engineering works in the affected villages were conducted from May 7 to 13.
The Humanitarian missions by the army in cooperation with the provincial government of Sorsogon and the LGU of Magallanes was conducted due to the urgency for relief and shelter of depressed residents, after tropical storm "Dante," an army brigade spokesman said.
The 901st Brigade earlier reported, that during retrival and rescue operations during the height of typhoon "Dante," units of the army's 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion searched and retrieved nine missing bodies in the landslides in Barangay Hubo.
Last May 4, the rangers recovered the bodies of the last three missing victims in the landslides, identified as Anthony Hombre, 23; Say Balguin, 33 and Gerry Guardacasa, 37.
The Brigade also cited efforts of the 92nd Division Reconnaissance, PA for their rescue operations in Irosin, Juban, Casiguran and Sorsogon City and saved two civilians and two other PNP personnel from deep floods.
The army also lauded the efforts of the 565th Army Engineering Construction Battalion to help repair washed-out portions of the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Guinlajon, Sorsogon City, where thousands of passengers bound for the Visayas and Albay were stranded last May 4. (SONNY SALES)
