NCF TPC launching and fundraising dinner

The Naga College Foundation, in partnership with the University of the Philippines National Institute for Geological Sciences, Christian Aid, and the Manila Observatory, will be holding a Grand Launching and Fundraising Dinner of the TYPHOON PREPAREDNESS CENTER (TPC) on 30 April 2009, 6:00 p.m., at the NCF compound.

TPC Is a non-profit center that aims to contribute to the protection of lives and properties caused by natural calamities such as tropical cyclones. It envisions safer community building resiliency by providing effective early warnings and conducting risk reduction activities in the Bikol region. It will serve as the regional center of weather information link to different weather stations being established by non-government organizations and the local government units of Naga, Masbate, Sorsogon, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte and Catanduanes.

The center will feature high-tech equipment capable of providing accurate and real-time weather forecasts. Its program areas include: weather information and flood warning through the NCF Weather Station, capacity building on disaster management, community organizing, and research and advocacy. The so-called "Mr. Typhoon" of Naga City, David Michael Padua, serves as the Director of TPC.
