LEGAZPI CITY, March 4 -- Veteran character actor Paquito Diaz died of pneumonia on Thursday evening at his home in barangay (village) Tagas, town in Daraga, Albay, his wife said on Friday. Diaz, 79, a well-known actor for his villain roles died at his residence two days after the hospital discharged him and allowed to return home and to recuperate.

Legazpi City (11 June) -- Police chief General Jesus Verzosa said Sunday (June 6) that the Philippine National Police (PNP) will continue to issue permit to carry firearms to gun owners but the agency will ensure more stringent requirements to facilitate monitoring, control and misuse of the said permit.

Verzosa, speaking at the PNP's Legacy Run Program at the Camp Gen. Simeon Ola, stressed that there is a need to control the carrying of firearms among gun owners to avoid abuse.

DARAGA, Albay, May 18 -- Gen. Delfin Bangit, Armed Forces Chief of Staff, directed on Monday the pulling out of the 85th Army Battalion after a successful security operation in the recently held first automated election in the island province of Masbate.

Bangit, in a command conference at the Philippine Army 901st Infantry Brigade based here following a visit in Masbate, said the pullout of the Army battalion from the country's contingent to United Nation (UN) peace keeping force in Haiti, headed by Col. Louie Dagoy, would be replaced by another Army battalion from the 9th Infantry Division.
