Daet, Camarines Norte. The DENR – Camarines Norte launched the “20 Million Seedling Production Program- Tree for Life Project” Urban Parks/ Areas Mass Planting at Brgy. Bibirao, Daet last November 14.
The DENR – Camarines Norte was the host province for the Regional Launching of the Urban Areas Mass Tree Planting. Participants from different NGOs, private and government agencies, academe and LGUs within the province composed of 1,257 planters simultaneously planted some 7,423 seedlings of Narra and caballero in their respective urban parks/ areas.
A two week preparation and planning were conducted prior to the activity like mapping, site preparation, selection of tree planting area. Hauling of seedlings to different municipalities and distribution of planting materials were done two days before the launching and planting activity.
Information and Education Campaign (IEC) was also utilized to discuss details of identification of planting site, availability and source of planting materials, maintenance and importance of planting /growing more trees and lectures in different participating schools was also conducted prior to the mass tree planting activity.
A short program at the Brgy. Hall of Bibirao where the planters assembled graced the event. A message on the importance of Trees for Life Project, particularly on climate change was also delivered by Executive Director, RTD Willie Palaypayon.
Trees for Life Project has different types of areas for tree planting: Protected area, Mangrove and Coastal, Agroforestry and Urban Areas. As of November 8, Region V produced 2,014,176 seedlings and planted 1,885,282 seedlings. A total of 20,402 planters or participants have joined the planting activity in the region.
Trees for Life Project was launched July 18, this year which aims to plant 20 million seedlings in denuded watersheds, forests, and depleted mangrove areas within the country. Prior to the said project, Green Philippines Highways program which is a simultaneous planting of trees along major highways was also put into action.
