Naga City – Several Punong Barangay candidates and kagawads supported by Mayor Jesse Robredo were defeated during the recently concluded October 29 elections.

Four of Robredo’s supported candidates as Punong barangay lost to their opponents while some of his incumbents who ran as kagawads were defeated by a large margin of votes.

Punong barangay Emerita Castillo of San Felipe, one of Robredo’s candidates, lost to Boy Benito, a neophyte in politics; while Armando Darilay of Barangay Carolina was defeated by Alice Saba.

The same fate was suffered by Eduardo Crianza when he lost to Jose Jacobo Jr., a pedicab operator in Barangay Sabang; meanwhile, the number of votes for Rafael Cayetano of Barangay Tabuco trailed distantly those of Jesse Albeus, a dentist by profession.

Some of Robredo’s incumbents who ran as Barangay kagawads but have lost were: Sammy Rivero of Sabang, Ederly Go of Lerma, and Corazon Totanes of Barangay Bagumbayan Norte; all of them lost with a large margin of votes.

“Garo nawawara na an pagtubod ki Mayor Robredo kan saiyang mga konstituwentes baka kaya gusto na man na magkaigwa nin mga pagbabago sa liderato kan barangay kaya dinaog an saiyang mga pisuportaran na kandidato,” some observers said.

David Esplana Jr. of Sabang, a former Barangay kagawad and an erstwhile political ally of Robredo echoed this saying that the election results are “a clear indication that the constituents of this city want a change in leadership.”

“Time would come, this city would have new leaders,” he added.
