LEGAZPI City, Sept. 12, 2010-The power cut off by the Philippine Electricity Market Corp. (PEMC) to the Albay Electric Cooperative (ALECO) on Sept. 12, was seen by its more than 200,000 member-consumers as a means to pave the way for the power rate hike and privatization of the sole power distribution in the province of Albay.

LEGAZPI CITY--Masbate Bishop Joel Baylon has expressed concern over the outpouring sentiments of farmers and fisher folk staging a series of mass rally against the operations of Filminera Mining Corporation (FMC), an Australian-Canadian based mining firm that scheduled a full blast open pit mining in Aroroy town on March 20, 2009.

MASBATE CITY--Despite lavish comfort for the position given by the mining company as chaplain, Fr. Edgar Monforte has resigned and joined the protesting community against Filminera Mining Corporation-Central Gold Asia Ltd. (FMC-CGA) in Aroroy, Masbate.

This came amidst protests and mass rallies that started last March 14, 2009 and enjoined by the Church, non-government organizations, farmers, fisher folk and concerned inhabitants that the mining operations of the Australian- Canadian firm is expected to bring chaos and destructions more than economic benefits to their town...

Diocese of Legazpi spokesman, Rev. Fr. Rex Orjona said parishes will continue to document people’s reactions to Balikatan exercises and the possible human violations that go with it.
