IRIGA CITY--True to its mission of giving its students quality education and academic excellence, the University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP) has invited Vice President Noli “Kabayan” de Castro as its distinguished guest and speaker during the school’s 61st Commencement Exercises on April 2 at the university gymnasium here.
The former TV journalist turned senator and the country’s Vice President is an epitome of dedication and hard work, a man who despite poverty, strived in his studies and succeeded in his career. UNEP chose him as graduation speaker to motivate and serve as inspiration for its graduates to emulate.
This year’s graduation theme “Enhancing Global Competitiveness of Graduates for a Stable Workplace Towards a Better Quality of Life and National Progress,” embodies the real scenario of what our future leaders should be. It speaks of what qualities our graduates should possess after finishing their degrees and fulfilling their university’s mission after going out of its portals, lawyer Remelisa Alfelor-Moraleda said.
Congressman Felix R. Alfelor Jr., (4th District,Camarines Sur ) who will introduce De Castro, extended his congratulations to the graduates and their parents. He said he wishes the graduates successs and challenged them to serve as living examples of UNEP’s legacy of good quality education.
Alfelor recalled how her mother, Dr. Remedios “Wawa” Rigoroso-Alfelor, practically embraced the academe. “UNEP’s co-founder, our mother, really puts great value on quality education. Her vision is for UNEP to be really recognized as a globally competitive university, producing quality graduates who are at par with their international contemporaries. We really hope that this will serve as an inspiration to all our students. Wawa’s inspiration will persistently serve as a great reminder that education is indeed a treasure to keep, a great legacy for the next generation.”
Founded in 1948, UNEP, a prestigious institution of learning in the Bikol region, is home to Bikolano achievers who until now have continuously lived up to the university’s mission and vision.
