Provincial government of Camarines Sur orders mandatory evacuation

PILI, Camarines Sur, Jan. 12 (PIA) – The 24-hour incessant rainfall due to the tail-end of a cold front and isolated thunderstorms caused an unexpected and extreme flooding in most areas in Camarines Sur, particularly in low-lying areas affecting residents living near river banks, spillways and creeks. One of the areas severely affected by flooding is the municipality of Lagonoy where spillways from Dahat to San Roque and Himagtocon spillway , Kinahulugan Bridge and Burabod Zone 6 were submerged in flood water and rendered inaccessible due to red alert flooding and strong current. The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) through the Environment Disaster Management Emergency Response Office (Edmero) headed by Luzena “Che” Bermeo stated that Search and Rescue team was immediately dispatched in the said area to ensure that all residents are out of danger. The danger caused by heavy rains and the peril of the continuous rise of flood water prompted Camarines Sur Governor Miguel “Migz” Villafuerte to order mandatory evacuation and directed all mayors, chairpersons of MDRRMCs, punong barangays and chairperson of BDRRMC to ensure implementation of the said order. PDRRMC also ordered the concerned LDRRMCs to inform communities near the mountain slopes and low lying areas at the rivers and its tributaries particularly at Lower Kilbay Catabangan, Ragay, Tinalmud, Tambang, and Lagonoy to take the necessary precautionary measures.
