NAGA CITY, Aug. 17 (PIA) --- President Benigno Aquino III will lead Tuesday, August 18, the commemoration of the third death anniversary of and pay homage to Jesse M. Robredo, former Mayor of this city and Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, cognisant of his exemplary feat in pursuit of good governance towards "matuwid na daan".
Malacanañang also declared August 18, this year, a Special Non-Working Holiday by virtue of Proclamation Order No. 1103 dated August 13, 2015, to give Nagueños opportunity to commemorate the death anniversay of Robredo, who has since been acclaimed as this city’s pride and honor.
Aquino will be joined by Rep. Leni Robredo and her immediate family, along.with some Cabinet secretaris, in a visit the grave of Robredo at the Eternal Gardens wherein they will lead a People’s Flower Offering along side with the Presidential Wreath and City Wreath.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 8:30 am for and among family and relatives of the late Jesse, prior to the arrival of the President.
After paying his homage to Robredo's grave, President Aquino, along with his entourage including the district and city officials, and sectoral leaders, among others will proceed to the Naga City Hall Grounds for the JMR Anniversary Commemorative Program and Multi-Sectoral Forum.
While the Presidnet is en route to the city, Naguenos will join the Good Governance Walk dubbed “Tsinelas Walk” or “Yapak ni Jesse” from the Eternal Gardens via Balatas Road-Magsaysay Avenue-Taal Avenue up to at the city hall grounds.
During the said forum, testimonials coming from representative from three different sectors, including the youth to be represented by a former City Youth Official (CYO); Lakas ng Kababaihan, a women's organization established by Rep. Leni Robredo, and the Urban Poor.
More or less 3,000 locales and visitors are expected to witness the momentous occasion.
Also earlier tomorrow, the JMR Fun Bike will commence at 6:00 am from the JMR Coliseum to Eternal Gardens.
Robredo was Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) until he died on August 18, 2012 when his light chartered plane crashed off Masbate waters on his way back to Naga City from a speaking engagement in Cebu City. (MAL/LSM, with reports from Jam Madrid, PIA5/Camarines Sur)
