LEGAZPI CITY, July 22 (PIA) -- Eighty seven (87) eco-aide or waste collectors from across this city received a total of P435,950.94 livelihood assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Bicol region office.
“Its about time that we focus our attention to these workers. They need the support of the government and we are providing them this livelihood grant already released on separate dates from last week of June up to July 16.,” DOLE Bicol regional director Nathaniel V. Lacambra said.
The grant, according to Lacambra, was in the form of tools and materials not cash which they can use in putting up ventures that can be their alternative sources of income.
Recipient of the livelihood grant were members of the Bayanihan Para Sa Kalikasan (BAKAS) and Samahan ng Bagong Pag Unlad (SBP), an association of eco-aides from 22 barangays in this city.
"They received assorted tools and materials such as an A-Riser, seeds, tetra pots, soil mix, bamboo slots and pressurized hand sprayer which they will need in maintain an urban garden or farm as a means of alternative livelihood. They will also be provided with corresponding trainings that will help them sustain their businessess," Lacambra said.
DOLE Bicol, in cooperation with the Solid Waste Management Association (SWAPP) and the Bicol Consortium for Development Initiatives (BCDI), has sponsored the project under the DOLE Kabuhayan Starter Kit (DKSK). (MAL-PIA5/Albay)
