GMA Kapuso Foundation, Inc., headed by GMAKF EVP and COO Mel C. Tiangco, recently received a donation from the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce Orange County (FACCOC) in California, represented by their President Elena Lapid-Salonga, in support of the Foundation’s Yolanda rehabilitation efforts.
The generous donation was the result of a fundraising dinner dance gala with Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez and Tacloban City Councilor Cristina Romualdez as guest speakers held at the Radisson Hotel Uptown Whittier on March 14, 2015 for the benefit of Yolanda victims. The fundraising event organized by FACCOC raised US$11,100. The proceeds will be used to support the Foundation’s ongoing projects for the disaster-stricken areas in the Visayas region specifically in Tacloban.
The campaign was borne out of a desire to help Tacloban residents after Lapid-Salonga visited the province to witness the situation first-hand as well as the existing efforts of the Kapuso Foundation. “I saw the housing project and it impressed me,” she says of the Kapuso Village in Tacloban, the first completed housing project in the city which the Kapuso Foundation will turn over to select beneficiaries this year. “When I went back to the United States, I told the organization, ‘We’re going to have a fundraiser. This is for GMA because I saw how they helped the city,’” she continued.
On behalf of GMAKF, Tiangco is grateful for the generosity of fellow Filipinos all across the globe. “We are truly grateful for Filipinos overseas who actively participate in the Foundation’s efforts to uplift the lives of their fellow Filipinos back home,” says Tiangco. “Your generosity is the seed with which we can plant new beginnings and bring about renewed hope in their lives.”
