Ruby back to super typhoon status

Naga City Dec 6, 2014 2:12 A.M. -- The Joint Typhoon Warning Center reverts Hagupit (local name Ruby) to super typhoon status as it moves closer to Eastern Samar.

Ruby sustained center wind is now 220 kph with gusts up to 280 kph and is located 295 km east-northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar or 495 km east-southeast of Legazpi City, Albay and is moving generally westward (slightly northwesterly) at 13 kph.

Ruby is now generally projected to make landfall somewhere in the provinces of Northern Samar and Easter Samar, most probably along the northern part of Eastern Samar, between 8PM-10PM Saturday evening (Dec. 6). Possible surges up to four meters in height can occur in some coastal areas.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has already raised storm signal no. 3 in all the Samar provinces --- Samar, Northern Samar and Eastern Samar.

Signal no. is hoisted over Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon and Masbate including Ticao island, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Norhtern Cebu including Cebu City, Bantayan Island and Camotes Island. Dinagat Province is the only area in Mindanao under storm signal no. 2.

The following areas are under storm signal no. 1: Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Burias Island, Romblon, Southern Quezon and Marinduque, Capiz, Iloilo, Antique, Guimaras, Aklan, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Rest of Cebu and Bohol, Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte including Siargao Island, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur and Camiguin.
