For producing high-quality shows which positively impact the Filipino youth, GMA Network was recognized as the country’s best media network during the first-ever Gawad Duyan Awards for Television held recently in Quezon City.

GMA was accorded the Gintong Duyan Award, the highest honor at the ceremony organized by the Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS).

The Gawad Duyan Awards for Television “aims to highlight shows that responsibly and sensitively project values, relationships and events that impact the unique and fragile milieu of the young.”

Public affairs programs Reporter’s Notebook and I-Witness won Natatanging Himay-Salaysay Award for their Hikahos na Musmos and Tawid Eskuwela episodes, respectively. The citation highlights informative documentaries on children’s welfare.

GMA News TV’s flagship newscast, State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, was given the Natatanging Himay-Ulat Award for its balanced news reporting and comprehensive analysis of today’s social and political issues. Meanwhile, Bawal ang Pasaway kay Mareng Winnie won the Natatanging Talastas-Katuturan Award for providing in-depth discussions and raising awareness on relevant issues.

GMA News and Public Affairs' first historical docu-drama, Katipunan, won the Lingap Lahi Award for cultivating Filipino pride. Kapuso actor Sid Lucero, who portrayed national hero Andres Bonifacio in the series, likewise earned the Hiblang Huwaran Award for inspiring greatness in individuals.

Kapuso homegrown artist Rocco Nacino and veteran actor Pen Medina were also given the Hiblang Huwaran and Hiblang Taliwas Awards, respectively, for their performances in Bayan Ko, GMA News TV’s first original series on good governance. PPS took notice of their portrayal of fictional characters who effectively influence others to become models for what is right.

In a related development, GMA News and Public Affairs was recognized in the 1st SM S.U.P.E.R (Salute to Unparalleled People, Endeavors and Resources) Awards for its coverage of the assault and aftermath of Super Typhoon Yolanda (International code name: Haiyan).

Awardees included GMA News anchor-senior reporter Jiggy Manicad and his crew (Karim Lagoyo and Winston Lucas); reporter Micaela Papa and her crew (Arturo Serrano and Marlon Espiridion); and Unang Hirit host Love Añover with her crew (Ricson Bactat, Dennis Mariano, and Suzette Pinpin).

Journalists from the regional GMA stations were also acknowledged, namely senior correspondent Joecel Huesca and video journalist Melvin Garvilles of GMA Iloilo, along with correspondent Greggy Magdadaro and video journalist Teodorico Solon of GMA Cebu.
