GMA News Online has been voted as favorite news website by overseas Filipino workers for the second consecutive year in a poll conducted by the Kapisanan ng mga Kamag-anak at Migranteng Manggagawang Pilipino, Inc. (KAKAMMPI).

The award was given to GMA News Online “in grateful recognition of their meritorious leadership in advancing the welfare and human dignity of overseas Filipino workers.”

Articles featuring tips and guides for OFWs posted on GMA News Online’s dedicated section for Filipinos abroad have become particularly popular among OFWs, Ma. Fe Nicodemus, chairperson of KAKAMMPI, told GMA News Online.

In addition, the Pinoy Abroad section also highlights success stories of Filipinos abroad, as well as articles provided by overseas content partners.

"We take pride in our commitment to covering the overseas Pinoy community. Half of our online audience is abroad, and many of those are hard-working, homesick OFWs who crave relevant information about the Philippines,” said Howie G. Severino, GMA News Online editor-in-chief.

The winner was chosen based on online and text votes sent by OFWs in different parts of the world and their families in the Philippines, while the awarding was held last December 2013 in Manila.

GMA News and Public Affairs personalities Jessica Soho, Mel Tiangco, Jay Taruc and Kara David were likewise recognized in the television categories of the OFW Gawad Parangal.
