Cam. Norte capital town launches “METRO DAET”

DAET, Camarines Norte – The local government of this capital town has launched “Metro Daet 2014” an acronym for “Moving Economy Toward Real Opportunities” (METRO), a major economic program for the New Year 2014.

Daet town Mayor Tito Sarte Sarion told newsmen during the weekend that under the program, the LGU shall focus on providing basic services such as employment facilitation and livelihood generation.

A resolution was passed by Sangguniang Bayan of Daet to support the program. Metro Daet Development Council was organized late last year to join neighboring municipalities in planning and implement economic programs with a common benefits of this capital town and as well as partner municipalities, Sarion said.

In Camarines Sur and Albay provinces, the cooperation of prime cities and adjoining towns under a metro program has effected urban development, business distribution and identification of growth areas.

Under the program, the Daet municipal government shall also start implementing the Environment Code of Daet, which will regulate the use of plastics and non-degradable materials, Mayor Sarion added.

During the launching of “METRO Daet”, a memorandum of agreement (MOA) was also signed by Mayor Sarion and the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) regional manager Bong Zipagan for the establishment of the Coconut Sanctuary Center and other PCA projects. This was also one of the highlights of Daet’s, “Salubong sa Bagong Taon” activity.

Also implemented this month is the “Business One Stop Shop” (BOSS) project of the local government that features a system electronic renewal of Business Permits and Licenses (BPLS), According to LGU statistics, the number of registered business establishments in the town has increased to 1,751 in 2013 from 1,705 in 2012.
