GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF), GMA Network’s socio-civic arm, received a P2 Million donation from Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, Inc. (PCPPI) to fund the Yolanda rehabilitation efforts.

The GMA Kapuso Foundation, the National Housing Authority (NHA) and the Tacloban local government have agreed to develop a resettlement area for the victims of typhoon Yolanda in Tacloban and Palo, both in Leyte. The rehabilitation venture will be called the “Kapuso Village Housing Project” and will benefit selected families displaced by typhoon Yolanda. GMAKF plans to build 400 houses and 20 classrooms in Tacloban, while 200 houses and 10 classrooms will be built in Palo.

In 2007, GMAKF turned over the first Kapuso Village composed of 100 houses and eight new classrooms to residents of Lilo-an Leyte who were displaced by the landslides in 2006.

Just last year, the Kapuso Village was erected in Iligan City for the victims of typhoon Sendong. Aside from the 120-unit housing project, GMAKF also built communal structures such as 10 classrooms for the Mandulog Elementary school and deep well water facilities in Brgy. Upper Hinaplanon also in Iligan City. Additional 60 houses located in Brgy. Tubaran, also in Iligan City are under construction and will be completed by January 2014.
