MANILA Philippines (12:30 AM Nov 7, 2013) - Supertyphoon Haiyan is now codenamed Typhoon Yolanda as it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at midnight with maximum sustained winds of 195 kph and gustiness up to 230 kph. It's center was last spotted 943 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur and is forecast to move West Northwest at 30 kph.
Philippine Atmospheric and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has raised typhoon Signal No. 1 over Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Biliran Island, Camotes Island, Surigao Del Norte including Siargao Island, Dinagat Island, Surigao Del Sur, Agusan Del Norte, northern part of Agusan Del Sur. In these areas, 30 to 60 kph may be expected within at least 36 hours.
No area in Luzon is under typhoon signal.
Rainfall is estimated at 10 to 30 mm per, considered heavy to intense, in areas within the 600 km diameter of the typhoon.
By Thursday evening, Typhoon Yolanda is projected to be 423 km East Southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar and is expected to make landfall between the Southern tip of Samar and the island of Leyte on of before noontime of Friday (Nov. 8). (From PAGASA, typhoon2000.com)
