On Wednesday, Oct. 23, Aquino defended his DAP (Disbursement Acceleration Program) in a forum before foreign and local media. Rather than meet head on with valid arguments our people’s widespread anger with DAP, he pointed instead—as if we’re fools—to an alleged “conspiracy” out to discredit his “Tuwid na Daan.”
“Lumang tugtugin” (old song). That’s like President Ferdinand Marcos before, defending his dictatorship through Martial Law because of an alleged conspiracy of communists and leftists out to seize government then.
But then again, PNoy confessed that DAP is all about “Who will remember you come election time?”
By his own words, this admission certainly makes PNoy the “King of Pork.”
For at the root of incensed clamor for the abolition of pork barrel whether of congress or of the president is not only its abuse for plunder and self-aggrandizement, but more importantly, its misuse for the perpetuation of patronage politics and political dynasties.
Precisely, senators and congressmen have been loath to abolishing the PDAF and all other forms of pork barrel for self-preservation purposes. And this has been at the expense of much-needed reforms in our laws and public policies.
For example, to this day there is no law against political dynasties even if mandated by the Constitution since 1987. Another is our criminal law system. The Revised Penal Code we have is circa 1930s and is only a copy of the Spanish Penal Code of the 19th century that has long been abandoned by Spain itself.
It’s a pity PNoy, or now should rightly be called, “King Pork Noy,” has fallen for the cancer of people in government who end up being the discredited “trapos” or traditional politicians.
As the oft-repeated saying goes: “Politicians think of the next election. Statesmen think of the next generation.”
Sadly, King Pork Noy is only thinking of his people from the Liberal Party like Mar Roxas, Butch Abad and their ilk who would be out of power come 2016. And that’s a little over two years from now only.
Apparently, popularity has gone to PNoy’s head. And that would also be his downfall as shown by recent surveys revealing his plunging ratings.
DAP is illegal and an evil in itself. That it was used like a carrot for senators and congressmen made it much worse than PDAF. For to him who has been given much, even more is expected. We, the people, trusted PNoy with Tuwid na Daan. But he himself said that it’s still the next election that’s on his mind.
Well, the king has no clothes after all! And we’re no fools!
On a positive note, our people are awakening and rising. This may well be the greatest blessing in disguise we have now from the pork issue. We are the true sovereign. We are the Boss. And King Pork Noy should listen to us and take heed: DAP needs to go.
Mabuhay ang Bayang Pilipino!
