TIWI, Albay (Oct 22, 2013) - A housewife who is now left with eleven father-less children accidentally killed her husband during a fatal quarrel over campaign materials.

According to local police, wife Salvacion Martinez admitted to bashing the head of her husband, Lorenzo Martinez, 54, twice with a “kudkudan” (a multi-toothed metal tool used to scrape off coconut meat from its shell). Salvacion, however, claims she never intended to kill the victim and what happened was an accident. She also claims self-defense because her husband was threatening her with a bolo.

It all started with an argument turned ugly. The fourteen year-old son of the victim, Roberto Martinez, said his father was outraged when his mother allowed posters of a rival candidate for upcoming Barangay elections to be posted somewhere in their house. His father was supporting another candidate, he said.

The Tiwi police arrested Salvacion on Monday (Oct 21).

The relatives of the victim told the local police “they are not pressing charges out of pity for the eleven children who are still under the care of the suspect”. (SONNY SALES)
