Typhoon Santi to hit Aurora tonight

NAGA CITY, Philippines (9:00 AM Oct 11, 2013) - Typhoon Santi (Nari) now threatens Central and Northern Luzon - expected to make landfall in Aurora province tonight. In the past 12 hours, Santi accelerated its westward movement and has further intensified, bringing with it extreme rains (400 cm in 24 hours) that can trigger flash floods.

It is now a large-sized weather system with a diameter of 685 kilometers. As of 5:00 AM today, the center of Santi was located in the western part of the Central Philippine Sea, 170 kms north-northeast of Pandan, Catanduanes or 275 Kms east-southeast of Casiguran, Aurora, moving west-northwest at 24 kms per hour. Typhoon force winds of 118 km/hour or more shall be experienced within 35 kms from the center 63 up to 117 km/hour winds can extend 140 kms. outwards.

On the forecast track, the core of Nari (Santi) will be passing well to the north of Bicol Region this morning and will be just off the coast of Northern Aurora this afternoon.

By this evening, Nari (Santi) will make landfall over Aurora somewhere over or very close to the town of Baler and will traverse the provinces of Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan late tonight through Saturday early morning before moving out into the West Philippine Sea.

Throughout Saturday, the typhoon will be cruising along the Scarborough (Panatag) Shoal in the West Philippine Sea, exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Sunday morning.

Santi is expected to pack a center wind of 175 km/hour when it hits Aurora, which is now under Typhoon signal no. 3 ((Winds of between 100 and 185 kph may be expected in at least 18 hours).

Typhoon signal no. 2 (Winds of between 60 and 100 kph may be expected in at least 24 hours)is raised over Isabela, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Quirino, Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Zambales, Northern Quezon, Polilio Island, Pampanga and Bulacan.

Typhoon signal no. 1 (Winds between 30 and 60 kph winds may be expected in at least 36 hours) is raised ove Southern Cagayan, Kalinga, Abra, Mt. Province, Ilocos Sur, Bataan, Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Lubang Islands, Quezon, Marinduque, Camarines Provinces, Albay and Catanduanes. (From typhoon2000.com
