PILI, CAMARINES SUR – The local government of this capital town in cooperation with the Kapisanan Ng Mga Broadkasters Sa Pilipinas (KBP ) planted 2,000 pili and hard wood variety trees to enhance the ecology of some 160 hectares of forest reserve at the foot of Mt. Isarog in barangays Curry and Bongcao in this municipality on Saturday morning (Sept. 7).
Pili town Mayor Alexis San Luis II said, the protected forest area was given by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to the Local Government of Pili under a stewardship arrangement in 2007 during the mayoral term of his late father, Alexis San Luis.
The Curry-Bongcao ecology park at Mt. Isarog is a potential tourist destination and camping area for Mt. Isarog trekkers but this has received less attention in recent years. San Luis said.
Nearly a thousand participants including 300 LGU Pili employees; over 300 elementary students of the Curry Elementary School; 9th Infantry Division Phil. Army personnel base at Camp Elias Angeles in this town; personnel of the Pili Police Station; members of the KBP in Cam. Sur; employees of SM City-Naga and Pili villagers near Mt. Isarog joined the massive tree planting activity. (SONNY SALES)
