MANILA, Sept. 4, 2013— Catholic Church leaders on Wednesday sounded alarm on the spread of leaked sex videos of some local celebrities.

Fr. Conegundo Garganta of the Church’s youth ministry said that such videos are “not giving a good example” to other people especially the youth.

“Actions like these manifest poor discernment and lack of moral grounding,” Garganta said.

An alleged sex video of comedian Wally Bayola and EB Babe dancer Yosh this week leaked on video sharing site YouTube.

Last month, a sex video featuring prominent band singer Chito Miranda and girlfriend Neri Naig also circulated online.

Fr. Melvin Castro, executive secretary of the Church’s Commission on Family and Life,  described the recent incidents as “saddening and disturbing” especially that youth look up to celebrities.

“With great love and respect, we appeal to our brothers and sisters in the entertainment industry, we look up to you. The youth look up to you,” Castro said.

According to him, celebrities need to function as a role model to their audience because of today’s celebrity-obsessed society.

“In God’s divine plan, marital union, physical intimacy, is so sacred it was created within the institution and sacrament of marriage. It should remain as such, sacred and intimate. Not to be trivialized and much less flaunted in public,” Castro said. (CBCPNews)
