Typhoon Labuyo threatens Luzon

Typhoon Labuyo (International name: Utor) now packs a centerwind of 140 km per hour with gustiness up to 165 and continues to intensify as it moves westward in at 26 km per hour in the general direction of Aurora-Quirino area. At 5:00 P.M. today, it's center is located 455 km East-Northeast of Virac, Catanduanes.

Eleven areas in Luzon have been placed under Typhoon signal no. 1: Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Quezon, Polilio Island, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quirino and Catanduanes.

Utor (Labuyo) is an average-sized tropical cyclone with a diameter of 445 kilometers across. The 24-hour rainfall accumulation near the center is estimated to be heavy at 250 mm.

Labuyo is expected to continue to strengthen within the next 24 to 36 hours, becoming a major Typhoon tomorrow (Sunday). Advance Intensity Forecast (AIF) shows the potential Typhoon reaching peak winds of almost 200 km/hr on Sunday afternoon before it makes landfall over Aurora.
