NAGA CITY – The first liquefied gas company in this city, Gas Petronas, shall hold the launching of its liquefied gas products on Feb. 2, 2013, taking off with a festive round-the-city caravan in the morning.

This was announced by Roberto F. Factora, chief executive officer of Gas Petronas, adding that the caravan shall be joined by nearly 300 people, including product dealers, 50 motor-bike riders “Kabalikat” radio-enthusiats, “Ati-atihan” street dancers, a float displaying the Petronas product with 5 muses, the band of the Naga College Foundation (NCF), over 50 tricycle and “padyak” (pedicab) drivers and employees of the firm.

Factora said Gas Petronas started operations in the province of Camarines Sur and the city of Naga six weeks ago and has already put up over 50 outlets in the towns covered by the first, second and third districts.

In the coming months, Petronas Philippines Energy Inc. shall invest Php 50-Million in this city for the construction of the first liquefied gas refilling plant, Factora added. The proposed site for this is a 2.679 hectare private land at barangay San Felipe, he said.

The property has been issued a Rezoning Ordinance (Ordinance no. 2012-068) from residential to industrial zone, enacted by the Sangguniang Panlunsad in Dec. 18, 2012 after a public hearing with stakeholders. The company's proposed facility has also been issued an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC-RO5-1210-0182) by the Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-MGB) on October 23, 2012.

It is projected that the first liquified gas refilling station in this city will generate employment particularly laborers, which will be harnessed at the neighboring CLUPA urban poor housing site, including the need for local skilled employees

From construction until the operation of the plant, liquified gas refilling plant shall be providing employment to local skilled workers and manual laborers are expected to be sourced from the neighboring CLUPA urban poor housing site.

Factora added that PETRONAS, an internationally known petroleum firm, is also giving out welfare and social benefits, like scholarship grants and environmental clean-up drive in communities where they operate plants. (SONNY SALES)
