Tropical depression Quinta has moved closer to Surigao City, the weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said on Tuesday.
At 8 a.m., PAGASA said Quinta was estimated to be at 330 kilometers east of Surigao City, moving closer than the estimated 400 km east of Surigao City as of 4 a.m.
"The low pressure area east of Northern Mindanao has developed into a tropical depression and was named 'Quinta'," PAGASA said.
Quinta has maximum winds of 55 kph near the center and moving west at 19 kph. The tropical depression is expected to make landfall over Dinagat Island then move 50 km east of Cuyo Island on Thursday. On Friday morning, PAGASA said the tropical depression is estimated to be 200 km northwest of Puerto Princesa City in Palawan.
Signal number 1 has been declared over Leyte, Southern Leyte, Eastern and Western Samar, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Island, Surigao del Sur, Agusan Provinces and Camiguin Island.
"Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signal number 1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Estimated rainfall amount is from 5 - 15 mm per hour (moderate - heavy) within the 300 km diameter of the tropical depression," PAGASA said.

"Cagayan Valley and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon will experience cloudy skies with light rains. Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy with brief rainshowers or thunderstorms," PAGASA said.
The weather bureau also warned fishing boats and other small seacraft to stay away from venturing out into the seaborads of Luzon and over the eastern seaboard of Visayas and Mindanao owing to the tropical depression and the northeast monsoon. (From Philstar.om)
