NAGA CITY – Domestic problems is thought to have driven a barangay captain of Liboton, Naga City to shoot himself with a Cal. 45 pistol right inside his office at the barangay hall of Liboton, at about 6:30 A.M. on Tuesday (Dec. 4).

An investigation conducted by the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) of the C. Sur Police Office and the Naga City Police Office revealed that Liboton barangay captain Alex Nero, 45, shot himself with a Cal. 45 pistol on his right temple while seated behind his table at his office.

Reportedly, a suicide note stating his intention to take his own life was found inside the drawer of his office table.

Police investigators found near the body of Nero, a slug and a spent shell from a Cal. 45 pistol, and the dead barangay official was still holding the pistol on his right hand.

Nero was president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) in this city. According to fellow barangay officials, Nero was head of the City’s Dangerous Drugs Board and in recent months was pushing for the approval of the “Dangerous Drugs Code” for the City government in response to the mounting use of illegal drugs in this City’s barangays.

On Tuesday, the police brought Nero’s body to the Cristo Funeral Homes at Cararayan in this city for a Paraffin test and finger print lifting, and the Camarines Sur Provincial Crime Lab Office took custody of items recovered at the suicide scene.

Close colleagues of Nero said that the late ABC president would usually joke that he would not reach 50 years old. “Dai na ako aabuton ning cinquinta años,” he was heard saying in local dialect.

The Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) here has announced that Tinago barangay captain Jose Importante, will replace Nero as ABC president, while Salvadora Ortua would succeed Nero as barangay chairmain of Barangay Liboton in this city. (SONNY SALES).
