We are the joining the call for truth and justice for Rommel Licmoan.
Rommel Licmoan was a member of our Chito Community at Vicente Heights, Pacol, Naga City. Like many Bikolano fathers, he strived to provide a decent shelter for his family, a home they could finally call their own. But before he could fulfill his dreams for his wife and two young children, he was senselessly murdered at 39 years old.
We are denouncing the injustice he suffered in the hands of the perpetrators. They did not only kill a man but they also crippled a Bikolano family struggling to make ends meet. They committed a gruesome crime not only against Rommel and his family, but also against all families that endeavor to find a better future.
We are urging for a swift but impartial investigation. Rommel’s family - and the public in general - deserve no less than the truth so the perpetrators will be meted out the proper punishment. We expect the justice system to work fairly and with dispatch, faithful to the principle that money, power or fame should never distort what is true and what is just.
We are echoing the call for witnesses to take courage and shed light on the circumstances surrounding Rommel’s murder. It was not a coincidence that they witnessed the crime. They have been entrusted the solemn responsibility to be the bearers of truth. By their honesty, they will give strength to Rommel’s family in this most difficult time. By their sincerity, they will prove that despite our people’s poverty, there is bravery in the face of uncertainty.
As we call for truth and justice, we also pray for the Licmoan family. May they lean on God’s grace as they traverse this dark and disheartening episode. And may Rommel’s death usher a renewed trust that ours is a society that rewards the just and punishes the guilty.
