Leading broadcast company GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) ruled over rival stations in nationwide TV ratings covering the first ten months of the year, according to the industry’s more widely recognized ratings provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.
From January to October 2012 (October 28 to 31 based on overnight data), GMA posted an average total day (6 AM to 12 MN) household audience share of 34.8 percent in National Urban Philippines (NUTAM); ahead of ABS-CBN’s 31.4 percent by 3.4 points and TV5’s 14.9 percent by 19.9 points.
In the ten-month period, GMA also emerged as the free-to-air channel of choice among viewers in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, which represent 77 and 59.5 percent, respectively, of total urban TV households in the country.
Leading across all dayparts in Urban Luzon, GMA scored a 38.6 percent total day average in the area, way ahead of ABS-CBN’s 27.3 percent by 11.3 points, and of TV5’s 14.4 percent by 24.2 points.
Similarly in its bailiwick Mega Manila, GMA remained ahead of competition in all dayparts with an audience share of 39.6 percent, up 13.9 points from ABS-CBN’s 25.7 percent, and up 24.6 points from TV5’s 15 percent.
In the month of October, GMA dominated the list of top-rating programs (less specials) in NUTAM occupying 17 out of the 30 slots. GMA also had more TV programs in the lists in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila with 20 and 21 entries in each one, respectively.
GMA’s main ratings drivers for the month of October included in the said lists are One True Love (OTL), 24 Oras, Pepito Manaloto: Ang Tunay na Kwento, Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho, Eat Bulaga, Aso ni San Roque, Luna Blanca Ang Ikatlong Yugto, Kap’s Amazing Stories, Faithfully, Moon Embracing the Sun, Kapuso Night Movie Flicks, Hindi Ka Na Mag-iisa, Sana ay Ikaw na Nga, Protégé, Wish Ko Lang, and Imbestigador. OTL also landed as the number one program in Mega Manila.
Also on the lists are GMA’s newly launched programs Extra Challenge on Sunday primetime, Temptation of Wife and Coffee Prince on GMA Telebabad, and Yesterday’s Bride on GMA Afternoon Prime.
GMA subscribes to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement along with 22 other paying subscribers including another local major television network (TV5), Faulkner Media, CBN Asia, 15 advertising agencies, and 4 regional clients.
In Mega Manila, Nielsen has a sample size of 1,190 homes versus Kantar Media's 770 homes. Nationwide, Nielsen has a sample size of 2,000 homes compared to the lower sample size of 1,370 utilized by Kantar Media. (GMA Network)
