Mayor Matamorosa did not make it

NAGA CITY (Oct 29, 2012) – The mayor of Lupi, Camarines Sur was confirmed dead at the Mother Seton Hospital at about 1:20 A.M. on Sunday, (October 28) after desperate efforts to save his life after being shot in the head by still unknown assailant.

Spokesman for Naga City Police Office SPO2 Randy Solano said on Monday (Oct. 29) that “task force Matamorosa” has been formed by the city police office to investigate the killing of Lupi town Mayor Raul Matamorosa.

Initial investigation by the City Police office bared that the victim was shot with a Cal. 45 pistol by a gunman who had two backup companions.

The Mayor was having a television set fixed at the “Double B” Electronic shop at the ALDC Building along Diversion Road at barangay Traingulo in this city about 3:45 P.M. on Sat. (Oct. 27) when he was shot.

Matamorosa was immediately brought to the the emergency room of the nearby Mother Seton Hospital where cardio-pulmonary resuscitation was done but he remained comatose until he expired.

Police investigators still face blank wall on the motive of Matamorosa’s killing. A lone spent shell of a Cal. 45 pistol was recovered by the SOCO team at the crime scene.

The brother of the mayor, Bobby Matamorosa, said the family has no knowledge of any political or personal enemies of the mayor who is servign out the last of his three terms as mayor Lupi town and was not seeking any elective post this coming 2013 elections.

Naga City Mayor John Bongat expressed alarm over the incident of the shooting of a fellow mayor in this city, as he directed the City police office to step up patrols and police visibility in the wake this new shooting incident coupled by rise in theft and robbery cases in the city’s suburban areas.

Naga police spokesman SPO2 Solano said that a cartographic sketch aided by computerized reconstruction of the description of the two among the three suspects were made public by the provincial police office on Monday. (SONNY SALES)
