The first ever golf tournament in Naga City was held Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Haciendas de Naga Golf Course, Carolina, Uptown Naga City.
It was simply dubbed Fun Golf Tournament, designed to be the first of a series of tournaments aimed at promoting golf in Naga City.
Rainy weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of Bicol-based golf aficionados who appeared more into the fun of the sport than the competition part.
"It is good, it is challenging!" said golfer Reeve David in a local television interview. David is one among the Naga-based foreign nationals who regularly play golf at Haciendas de Naga Golf Course.
The golf tournament was played in 16 holes following the Callaway System 32 Scoring Handicap with players divided into three teams with 3-4 members each.
The winners
Greg R. Montaña was the champion and Ariel T. Oriño the runner-up in Class A category while Reeve David was the champion and Engineer Emeterio "Boy" Aman the runner-up in Class B category.
Trophies and Adventure Park gift certificates were awarded to the winners.
Golf in Naga
Aside from offering basic and advanced golf lessons, Haciendas de Naga has committed to host a Fun Golf Tournament every month. The next tournaments slated for this year shall be held on October 20, November 24 and December 15.
In the coming months, golf is expected to be the new craze in Naga City.
