In the true spirit of being a Kapuso, members of GMA Network’s employee-volunteer program, GMA G.I.V.E.S. (Guide, Interact, Volunteer, Educate, Serve), trooped to Barangay Tanza, Navotas City to take part in Habitat for Humanity (HFH) Philippines’ Youth Build 2012 last May 12.

The GMA G.I.V.E.S. members answered the call of “bayanihan spirit” by being among the 1,800 volunteers who turned up at the Navotas site to build the walls for the homes of 1,500 families displaced by Typhoon Pedring last year.

Kapuso star Marvin Kiefer and Ms. World Philippines Second Princess and Ms. Kapuso World, Chloe McCulley, lent a helping hand, too.

“By working together as one, we have fun in contributing in our own little way. We do not feel the exhaustion,” shared GMA G.I.V.E.S volunteer Jay Tañeda.

As Teresa Pacis, AVP of GMA Corporate Affairs explained, “It is good for our employees to be able to live our corporate commitment to provide Serbisyong Totoo through volunteer activities like the Youth Build.”

Fernando Zobel de Ayala, Chairman of Habit for Humanity Capital Campaign, said that the event exemplified how the youth can get involved in solving the problems of the country and Asia as well.

“We all need to be involved in the future of our country to help our fellow Filipinos,” Ayala stated.

HFH Philippines partnered with the Navotas Local Government and various non-government organizations.

The housing program in Navotas is headed by Mayor Johnrey Tiangco and Rep. Toby Tiangco through the Navotas Socialized Housing Project.  “The spirit of bayanihan is still alive and there is hope for a brighter future for our countrymen,” Mayor Tiangco said. (GMA Network)
