NAGA CITY, Nov. 4, 2009─In a gesture of fraternal solidarity, the Archdiocese of Caceres has spearheaded a donation campaign to help families displaced by typhoon Ondoy in Manila archdiocese.
Caceres Archbishop Leonardo Z. Legaspi, O.P., D.D., issued an appeal to all parishes, Catholic schools, and religious organizations to help the typhoon victims.
Around 43 parishes, 18 religious congregations, schools, other institutions and six individual donors responded to the call and generously sent in donations in cash and in kind.
The campaign which has generated an amount of P128,710.25 in cash and 1,821 packages of used clothing was coursed through Caritas Manila.
Empathizing with the typhoon victims, the people of Caceres, did not only share material things, but also devoted their time for the relief operation spearheaded by the Caceres Social Action Foundation, Inc (CASAFI).
Around 167 volunteers coming from the Caceres Catechetical Commission (CCC), Universidad de Sta. Isabel (USI), Barangay Social Worker Volunteers, Parishes of San Francisco in Naga City, San Lorenzo Ruiz of Manila in Abella, Naga City and Holy Cross in Tabuco, Naga City took turns during the 5-day sorting and packaging of used clothing.
It was a concrete gesture of thanksgiving to God and expression of brotherly solidarity with the Archdiocese of Manila. (Clarence Lorin)
