IRIGA CITY ---- Officials and mass communication students of the University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP) participated in the 1st International Convention on Media Communication held Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009 at the University of the Philippines (UP) Film Institute in Diliman, Quezon City.
Melody Ordonez, UNEP Media Relations director, said the school's delegation was led by lawyer Remelisa Alfelor-Moraleda, UNEP president and Del Alfelor-Tibi, the university's vice president for Finance, who together with UNEP mass communication students joined hundreds of educators and students from various schools, and media practitioners from different media outlets in the country.
Ordonez, who was one of the members of the panel of reactors, said the convention aims to provide a venue for students and educators for the advancement and essential evaluation of communication practices in the field of journalism.
The convention was organized by the International Center for Communication Studies (ICCS) with the theme " Taking a Closer Look at the Different Areas of Broadcast Journalism."
Tibi said the participation of UNEP students in the gathering was intended to provide them with academic and non-academic trainings to prepare them as world-class broadcast professionals who will be a par with their counterparts from other parts of the world.
Among the well-known media practitioners who acted as resource speakers during the international event were: Entertainment host Boy Abunda of ABS-CBN who discussed the topic "Credibility on Entertainment Reporting;" Broadcast journalist Karen Davila who discussed "Climbing Up the Journalism Ladder;"
Meanwhile, GMA-7 broadcast journalist Kara David talked about "Journalism as a Public Service;" and BBC World News anchor Rico Hizon spoke on the topic "Broadcast Journalism on International Perspective."
Other speakers during the event were journalists from respected TV networks such as Al Jazeera, CNN, BBC, and Discovery Channel.
UNEP under its present leadership is determined to provide its students with quality and wholistic education. It is known in the region and the country as home of global achievers.
