Naga City - - THE EQUIPMENT OF A LOCAL CONSTRUCTION FIRM HERE, has been razed by suspected communist rebels in a series of three incidents, the police provincial office (PPO) here had reported.

The PPO reported on August 10 that communist rebels have torched an ELF-truck with plate number EAD 367 owned by the Megay Construction firm in Sitio Mayon, Barangay Toytoy, Garchitorena, a coastal town in Camarines Sur.

The PPO similarly reported that rebels also earlier torched six heavy equipment owned by the said construction firm in Becalan, Presentacion in May this year; while in June 23, at barangay Ombao Heights in Bula, Cam. Sur, rebels also torched a backhoe, and a bulldozer, similarly owned by the said construction firm.

Reportedly, Megay Construction is under contract with the Department of Public Works and Highways to work on the Caramoan Coastal Road.

The police declared that the construction firm sustained some P6 Million to P8 Million in damages to equipment in Presentacion, but   inside sources   said that damages could have  reached  P 20 Million.

Sources also said that rebels were demanding revolutionary taxes from the construction firm working in the Caramoan road project, but the firm had not met the rebel demands.

The recent visit by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Sec. Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. in Legazpi City had confirmed that the Caramoan Peninsula Road is among the priority projects of the President.

However, the current peace-and-order problem in the localities covered by the road project is now affecting the completion of the said road project. (SONNY SALES).
