NAGA CITY, Aug. 14  -- Police anti-narcotics operatives swooped down on Thursday a house of a suspected illegal drug trader and seized close to P4 million worth of Metamphetamine hydrochloride, or commonly known as shabu, in a subdivision here.

Arrested in a buy-bust operation were Ali Diamaodin, 43, his sons Juhaider, 22, and Dionair, 18 all native of Marawi City and temporarily residing at a rented house in Lukban St., Villa Karangahan Subd., San Felipe village this city.

Police Sr. Supt. Tomasito Clet, newly installed city police chief, said the police raid seized some 456 grams in five big plastic sachets containing suspected shabu drugs, P15,784 cash and five cell phones.

He said the seized illegal drugs have a street value of P3.6 million.

Clet said a police crack team, led by Police Sr. Inspector Benigno Albao Sr., at a buy-bust operation swooped down at about 9:30 pm Thursday the rented house of the suspects wherein they were caught in the act of selling a plastic sachet containing six grams of shabu to one of the agents posing as a drug user.

In that lightning raid, the suspects did not resist the arrest and were immediately detained at the city police detention center.

Clet said the raid was a result of two weeks surveillance operation conducted by his intelligence branch and informants reporting about the presence a group of Muslims believed to be illegal drug peddlers operating in this city.

He said they are preparing charges for violation of the comprehensive anti illegal drug act. "We are just waiting for the result of the test from our crime lab then we will submit this to the fiscal for appropriate legal disposition," he added.

Clet said "one of my priority programs is to wipe out or curb the illegal drug operation in this city, I will clean the city streets of illegal drugs traders and users."

Anti-narcotics authorities said shabu or the "poor man's cocaine" is the widely used illegal drugs next to marijuana and rugby in Bikol.(PNA)
