IRIGA CITY ---  Students of the Graduate School of the University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP) doing research works can now avail of the unlimited trial access to unlimited reference materials through the online services of the Philippine eLib  aside from those already available in the school library, the UNEP librarian bared recently.

In a talk titled "Philippine eLib: the Gateway to Online Searching" delivered here on July 25-26, Hermie Salazar, UNEP's librarian told graduate students to make use of the free trial access to Philippine eLIB,  the country's online library that boasts of over a million bibliographic records, some 25 million pages of Philippine materials, 29,000 full text journals, and countless other materials.

The Philippine eLib is a collaborative project of the National Library of the Philippines (NLP), University of the Philippines (UP), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Agriculture (DA), and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Funded through the e-Government Fund of the Philippine Government, the project hopes to provide for the information needs of all sectors of society in a convenient, affordable, and efficient way of delivery.

Salazar's advice is line with UNEP's library's goal to provide graduate and non-graduate students relevant, current resources and information materials, both print and non-print that shall support the instructional  research  and recreational needs of the students.

UNEP offers post-tertiary and graduate courses in Education, Business, and Public Administration aside from college courses in Law, Nursing, Commerce, Education, Liberal Arts, Social Works,Criminology, Engineering, Architecture, Maritime, HRM, Midwifery, and other non-degree vocational and technical courses, aside from elementary and secondary courses.

Lawyer Remelisa Alfelor-Moraleda, UNEP president said the university's Graduate School commits itself to produce globally competitive and value-laden professionals in various graduate disciplines and to the advancement of knowledge through relevant research and extension activities to enhance the capability of stakeholders for sustainable development.

UNEP's vision is to provide students with a premier Graduate School known as a knowledge center for sustainable resource development. We aim to: provide our graduate students with expertise at par with national and international standards, Moraleda said.

Moraleda said that the core value of UNEP's Graduate School is anchored on "United, noble, excellent, and empowered professionals who are globally competitive and committed to service.

Meanwhile, Salazar is planning to recommend to the UNEP management for the university to become an institutional member of Philippine eLib.
