QUEZON City, Oct. 28, 2014—A former rector of the University of Santo Tomás (UST) in Manila died on Monday, Oct. 27, from a yet undisclosed cause, the official Facebook page of the university reports.
He was 90 years old.
Fr. Frederik S. Fermin, OP a Dutch-born naturalized Filipino citizen, served the Pontifical and Royal University as Rector Magnificus from 1978 until 1981.
He was also Dean of the Catholic university’s Faculty of Arts and Letters, and rector of the UST Central Seminary.
Fermin’s cremated remains will lie in state at the Chapel of the University of Santo Tomás, Manila starting on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
The celebration of a Funeral Mass is set on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2 p.m., also at the UST Chapel.
He will be interred later the same day at the Santuario de Santo Domingo, Santo Domingo Church, Quezon City. (Raymond A. Sebastián)
